You're still in a pretty okay position, even if your opponent dumps a ton of shots into the center of the crowd. This obviously becomes a worse deal as you stack up more and more units in the same place, but you are under no obligation to do so - swarm shield doesn't stack past the first adjacency, and you don't need to crowd your entire army around one nanite repair station.Īdditionally, if you do crowd like that, then you're getting the benefit of the adjacency 6 times over - and those bonuses are generally good if you can land them on 1 or 2 units. On the "things that require adjacency" issue, this is a minor disadvantage however, the amount of shields gained by swarm shields tends to far outweigh the relatively minor risk of being hit by a stray bullet. The bullet missed its intended target, which is a big deal even if the primary target is surrounded, any damage dealt this way is going to be unreliable when it comes to hitting what you want to hit, and is less valuable as a result. I tend to think of it more along the lines of "you fired into a crowd - you're going to hit something." There's a 1/6 chance of it hitting any of the adjacent hexes (this includes cover hexes, btw - it can hit the rocks in front of you), so it's not really "guaranteed" to hit anything. I guess no one ever misses high or low in this game only right or left of target. It makes a hex that can hold a unit with 3 figures so small there is no where to hide no where to move to avoid being hit when someone misses an adjacent hex. It's working as designed, although I really don't like the design. Well the game isn't cheating and it's not a bug. I suppose it could even hit someone in complete cover, the solid shield with such a miss? By using the Hidden's Shroud Step ability and skitter for my melee units, putting everyone in cover surrounding my Hidden so they all also benefit from the Shroud fog so they individually have over a 100% chance to be missed (I know the game always allows a 5% regardless) I have instead made it a 100% chance to be hit if they target the Hidden in the center of the group? So this is basically telling me the game has, in my opinion, a very bad design flaw. But I did not know a miss automatically hits, without checking to hit, against a random adjacent hex. Understanding of the game never ceases to impress me.
